In this day and age, it’s one of the few times that it’s sexy to be a nerd. When having a lady over, leave out some of your prized nerd paraphernalia to show off your smarts. There are some classics by Shakespeare that would make sense to have in the mix like Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice, or The Twelfth Night; avoid Taming of the Shrew. An excellent novel to put on the top shelf is The Tale of Two Cities. It carries a heavy weight with it (literally and figuratively) that most people have at least heard of, but never have actually read. You might not want to dig into such a large read, which is why you can always do a read through online or pick up a condensed version. While you don’t want to look like too much of an overconfident jerk, you do want to look learned. Putting your collection out on bookshelves in the living room just implies that you use them often enough to have them near you. Putting them out on the coffee table implies that you want them to see how much you read.

While it’s healthy to keep them in your collection to pay respects, don’t be afraid to add some of the newer writers to your collection as well. Sparkly vampires and dominant businessmen may fill the fantasies of women, but be wary when trying to use them to show off to the ladies. Yes, you might look like a sensitive yet possibly kinky guy, or you could come across as simply being into feminine reading. To ensure that you sound like the first, get yourself some real erotica to adorn your home.
